Red Light Jazz

What began in a Caribbean restaurant in Rotterdam has grown into a rich and distinctive musical universe. Inspired by influences from Suriname, Curaçao, Morocco, and India, among others, Arp Frique has developed a sound that is both warm and energetic, a blend of disco, funk, and global rhythms, with echoes of New York club culture, yet always marked by its own vibrant signature.

In the studio, Arp Frique works as a multi-instrumentalist, building his music layer by layer. On stage, that work takes on a new dimension. Together with his “Family”, a collective of seasoned musicians from the Surinamese-Dutch-Cape Verdean scene, he creates a live show centered on collaboration, energy, and experience.

Expect an evening where music is not just played, but truly felt: danceable, layered, and full of character.

Since 2014, Red Light Jazz has grown from a local initiative into an international multi-day jazz festival in Amsterdam. Set across the Red Light District, it brings together established artists and emerging talent in unique venues, celebrating jazz while connecting the city’s musical past and present.
